I'm still struggling with how, exactly, to complete this project. I'll definitely be playing Bach's Partita #2, but what about the commentary? I'm supposed to be exploring what makes a piece more or less compelling. I know how to do this, but I still need to figure out how this affects the experience for the audience.
It's not so much a matter of I don't know what the audience is experiencing. I do. I've experienced several performances, the good, the bad, the ugly, the really fabulous, and everything in between. It's a matter of articulating what I'm feeling.
How exactly does adding dynamics and phrasing effect the experience? Or adding different bowings and bow techniques? What exactly am I changing to create a different experience? One of the problems of doing something for a long time, is that it stops being part of your conscious thought, and becomes much more automatic.
However, on the other side, I am a music teacher. I should be able to articulate these thoughts, in order to teach my students about them. Having thought about it some, I'm still not sure what I'm going to end up saying, but I know it will help me be a better teacher.
I think, in reality, I'm going to end up having to do all my recording before the storyboard is due. I will need to actually experience it in order to figure out how these different elements affect the experience.
